Program Description

The Business Administration program provides students with a strong academic foundation to seamlessly transfer into the third year of a four-year college or step directly into a professional career. As part of the program, students choose a specialization in Accounting, Computer Programming, Management, or Marketing, allowing them to develop expertise in their chosen field.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Business Administration program requirements, students will be able to:

  1. Effectively communicate core business concepts, including organizational structures and management functions, legal principles, ethics, and social responsibility using appropriate terminology in written and oral formats.

  2. Analyze and interpret financial statements and related information to assess business performance and support informed decision-making.

  3. Apply quantitative and statistical methods and use business productivity software to organize, analyze, and present data in support of practical business decisions.

Degree Options

Students must choose an option to graduate: Accounting, Computer Programming, Management or Marketing (12 Credits)

Accounting Option Description:

This option provides students with a solid foundation in accounting and general business principles. It is designed for those planning to transfer to a senior college to complete a bachelor’s degree or pursue entry-level roles in the fields of accounting and finance.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Accounting Option requirements, students will be able to:
1. Apply advanced accounting skills acquired throughout the curriculum to record, summarize, and evaluate financial transactions.
2. Apply business technology and software applications to create professional business documents, develop spreadsheets, and use databases for financial analysis and informed decision-making.

Computer Programming Option Description:

The Computer Programming option gives students practical knowledge in software development, web development, operating systems, and database management. The curriculum prepares students for entry-level roles in IT and business technology or for seamless transfer to four-year colleges. The option emphasizes real-world problem solving, hands-on coding experience, and business applications to ensure students are ready for today’s technology-driven workplace.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Computer Programming Option requirements, students will be able to:
1. Design and develop software applications using industry-standard programming languages to solve technical problems in business settings.
2. Apply web programming, development, and database technologies to build interactive websites and business applications that support organizational objectives.

Management Option Description:

The Management Option provides students with foundational knowledge in marketing, finance, and core areas of business practice. Through elective coursework in topics such as small business management, entrepreneurship, international business, or organizational behavior, students explore areas of interest aligned with their career goals. The program prepares students for entry-level roles in business operations and support, as well as for management training programs or transfer to four-year business programs. With a focus on practical applications, business technology, and problem-solving, the curriculum builds the skills needed to navigate today’s dynamic business environment.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Management Option requirements, students will be able to:
1. Apply foundational principles of marketing and finance to evaluate business opportunities and support basic managerial decision-making.
2. Analyze management scenarios to identify business challenges and propose solutions, demonstrating awareness of small business, global, and entrepreneurial practices.

Marketing Option Description:

The Marketing Option provides students with a strong foundation in marketing principles, consumer behavior, branding, and digital marketing. Designed for those pursuing careers in marketing or planning to transfer to a four-year institution, this option emphasizes practical applications, critical thinking, and the use of modern marketing tools. Students will develop the analytical and technological skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive business environment.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Marketing Management Option requirements, students will be able to:
1. Analyze and apply core marketing concepts, including the four P’s (product, price, place, promotion), consumer behavior, and ethical decision-making in domestic and global markets.
2. Use business technology to create marketing materials, manage data, and develop digital marketing strategies.

[1] In order to comply with transfer requirement at Senior Colleges, students are required to complete course College Algebra and Elementary Trigonometry or course College Algebra and Elementary Trigonometry (corequisite) in Required Core B and course Precalculus to fulfill Flexible Core E. Students who place out of course should complete course in Required Core B and may select another course to fulfill Flexible Core E.

[2] Students may select either a 4-credit STEM Variant science course or a 3-credit science course to fulfill Required Core C. Students selecting a 3-credit course must also complete an additional 1-credit lab course to fulfill graduation requirements.

[3] In an effort to select courses which can be accepted as transfer credits at Senior Colleges and give students the breadth of knowledge required nationally of Business Majors, students are strongly recommended to complete course or course and/or course to fulfill Flexible Core A, course to fulfill Flexible Core B, and course and/or course to fulfill Flexible Core D. [7] Students must take course prior to earning 24 degree or equated credits. Students who have earned 24 or more degree or equated credits are permitted to use the one credit as a free elective.  It is highly recommended that students take course in their first or second semester. This requirement will be waived for students who have earned 24 or more degree or equated credits at BCC or another college and transfer into this program. Students receiving course waivers will be required to take one free elective to complete 60 credits to graduate.

[8] Students wishing to participate in Baruch College’s Business Academy for regular or early entry acceptance into Zicklin’s BBA program must change their option course selection as follows: Accounting option students must complete course in place of course, Computer Programming option students must complete in course in place of course and course in place of course. Management option students must complete course and course in place of the choice of course, course, course, or course. Marketing option students must complete course and course and choose only one course from course, course, and course.
